YANG Yi was born in Nanjing, China. After participating in the Beaux-Arts de Paris exchange program during her studies at Central Academy of Fine arts in Beijing, she decided to continue her studies in France in 2016. She obtained DNSAP with congratulations from the jury and the Prix des Amis des Beaux-Arts de Paris in 2019. She now lives and works between France and China. She has recently had several solo exhibitions, "Paysage des autres" at the Nouvel Institut Franco-chinois museum in Lyon(2022), "Hors champ" at the Jinji Lake museum in Suzhou, China(2023) and "Avec le vent, déferlent les souvenirs" at Yishu 8, in central Beijing (2024).
Her work often questions the reality of the image. In his recent paintings, there is often a landscape behind a transparent veil. The location of these landscapes is often unidentifiable. The ambiguity of the titles given to the works leaves room for viewers to project their own experiences onto the paintings. Frequent travels between her native country and the one where she now lives blur her sense of place and her own memories. With her pictorial work, she creates a semi-imaginary/real world.
